Most of us have tried (or made) the old traditional Grandmothers Flower Garden hex block - or even a full quilt. This is NOT that pattern, nor does it require any paper patterns. In this class you will learn that the HEXAGON shape lends itself to many other kinds of very creative blocks. You will try a few of those, some of which are shown in the photos. A cutting and materials list will be supplied to you prior to class, so you can come ready to sit and stitch - and see how easily these terrific blocks - or ROWS of them come together. What kind of fabric? Do not limit yourself. Begin with what you have in your stash to try out the technique. THEN you can choose something you really want to have in a quilt. Great I SPY blocks. Wonderful in bright and bold florals. Perfect for strips of dreamy pastels. Suggest you bring a ruler with a 60 degree mark on it. If you already have a hexie ruler, bring it along. We will play with all sorts of different rulers and show you how to use them.

If you have ever wanted to learn the easiest way to construct a pineapple block, this is perfect for you. Not only do you NOT have to use a paper foundation, with all the mess of removing the papers, you can also use the same technique to make blocks of any size. You will learn a few great tricks for cutting your strips, so you do not have lots of leftover trimmed ends. You will also find that you can make this favorite block take on a new look depending on where you place the lights and darks in the assembly of the rows. Or you can opt to create a new look by using a fussy cut fabric in the center of the block. What if you use wide strips? How does that change? Or narrow strips - lots of them? This block lends itself to any of your stash fabrics - from the brightest new florals, to the subdued and calming reproductions. Tons of ideas and lots of fun ! You will want to start on your next quilt right away after trying these great techniques.
